Toda Red Shawl

The Toda red shawl is an intricately hand embroidered by the Toda community, a pastoral tribe living in the hills of Nilgiris. The embroidery known as "pukhoor" is certified GI, has a fine woven finish and is  an art by itself.  The embroidery is distinctive as it is based on thread count unlike modern embroideries based on set patterns and designs. The reverse side of this piece of art is equally beautiful with no signs of hanging threads or knots. 

The Toda tribal community has been preserving this art form of embroidery for thousands of years. Through generations of dedication, the Toda artisans have preserved their traditions, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of craftsmanship.
